We could not have been more excited when Heather invited us to test this pattern. I’ve been an avid reader of Closet Case Files since I discovered sewing blogs. I find endless inspiration in her modern aesthetic. Yep, I’m a total fan girl.
My Nettie is a size 2 with the scoop front and medium back. As a pattern tester I cut and constructed my bodysuit exactly as instructed using a Girl Charlee knit recommended by Heather. This project zipped together really quick and fit beautifully. I’ve always considered my torso to be on the longer side, but the crotch fit comfortably and my bum stays covered, more than I can say for most of my underpants frankly. Yeah Victoria Secret I’m lookin at you.
So my first experience as a pattern tester was easy breezy. My only critique involved the snap crotch construction instructions which I found confusing. However, I’ve read through the final instructions and I feel that Heather has done a great job improving this section. And with her sewalong you are in good hands.
Oh and for the notion nerds out there Sarah Grey got in these new snap setting kits. You just whack away with a hammer which is both cathartic and satisfying. Voila professional set in snaps, brilliant! Hand sewing is for the birds.
Once my Nettie was complete I quickly realized I had nothing worthy to pair with her. This sad state of affairs led to the purchase of some delicious perforated faux leather which in turn became this little skirt. Flirty skirts worn by a pair and a spare and Man Repeller were my main points of inspiration when I drafted this number. The skirt in underlined with white cotton lawn to highlight the holes. I think it gives it a sporty chic feel assuming that is a thing.coral/watermelon pink bamboo knit underlined with a light pink bamboo knit – the instructions don’t call for underlining but I was worried the single layer wouldn’t be stable enough. It all sewed up so quickly and the resulting fit I am really pleased with. I am a tad short-waisted so I may take a 1/2″ out of the torso length and I may add some more width to the shoulder seam to ensure bra coverage and prevent any accidental slipping off. I plan to make a lot more of these in the future – I need one in every basic color, plus a striped one for sure… I am sure I can dream up a million more… I also love the idea of a cropped Nettie a la Ping of Peneloping!
What an exciting summer for indie patterns! The Nettie Bodysuit, the Hudson Pant, Colette Patterns jumping into knits, swimwear by Papercut Patterns, I can barely keep up. What is on your sewing list?
