Alrighty-roo it’s time to talk Tap Shorts Sewalong!
Most of you are probably familiar with the sewalong concept, but if you’re new to indie patterns or sewing blogs this might be uncharted territory. A sewalong is a series of blog posts designed to walk you through garment construction with lots of pictures and helpful tips. You’ll also be able to ask questions in the comments and get answers directly from yours truly. You can sew your own pair of Tap Shorts with us or come back to this series and sew at your own pace.
I have to admit I was pretty stumped for a while on how to structure this sewalong. With three pattern views this series had real potential to stretch on forever. However, I had a spark of inspiration when a close friend, an old roommate in fact, contacted me. As someone who has never attempted a garment she had no idea what twill tape or interfacing was, but she had noticed the difficulty level was beginner and wanted to give the Tap Short Pattern a try. And so I found my sewalong muse.
The Tap Short Sewalong will be broken down into 8 posts with one pattern hack sprinkled in for fun. The construction of view A and B are very similar so I will guide you step by step through both these views simultaneously. I plan to gear this portion of the sewalong to someone very new to garment sewing. For the intermediates out there I plan to end the sewalong with specific techniques that might be new, namely welt pocket and fly zip construction. My hope is that this will allow you to pop in for the posts that interest you rather than digging through an entire sewalong.
