I fell in love with this border print rayon – I mean, those colors, the triangles, the border print… What’s not to love? I ordered two yards to make a gathered maxi. The skirt is actually just one piece – the width of the two yards and the length I needed for the skirt plus hem – with a center back seam and zip gathered into a waistband – can’t get much simpler than that!
The border of the print ran along the selvedge edge of the fabric, so the skirt is technically on the cross-grain. I used a bit of the border print to create the waistband which I interfaced and closes with both a bar hook and an interior button. I finished the center back seams with some rayon hug snug to prevent fraying.
Long, swishy, flowy skirts like this are perfect for spring and summer – they are so comfortable and still look polished – and in a bold print like this are an instant style statement you don’t have to think about on days where it is too hot to think.
