Let me introduce you to my favorite new dress. I’m calling it the ruffle swing dress because I’m no good at dreaming up clever names. This dress is based on my self drafted ruffle swing top. Again no darts or closures, wee! I love that I can just throw it on and go. Plus the dress is super fun to walk in because the ruffle adds just enough stiffness for the hem to float around me as I move.
I probably shouldn’t be so smitten with a project this simple, but I just am. I’ve been dreaming up new variations so I can justify more in my closet. Maybe a flowy chiffon version or one with an altered neckline. Have you seen the Ella Dress by Garmenter? I’ll definitely be ripping off those armscyes.
After singing the praises of this dress it would be a little obnoxious if you couldn’t get your hands on a similar pattern. Fortunately I’m not the first to discover the many virtues of a simple dress with large ruffle. In fact there are all sorts of patterns out there. So many in fact that I put together a little round-up below.
