Polka dot Iris shorts

Polka Dot Shorts

Iris shorts from Colette Patterns, can you tell I’m anxious for some warmer weather?

This is the first garment in a long time that I love as much finished as when I was creating it.  Frequently  my projects fail to live up to the vision in my head, disappointing to say the least. More often than not it is the fabric selection that gets me into trouble. I tend to fall in love with a print and disregard good judgment when it comes to drape and weight. However on this project I confined myself to the home dec weight fabrics which paid off.

I also broke with personal tradition and made a muslin. These are shorts after all and I thought the fit might be a little tricky. Making a muslin allowed me to move the pockets to the side seam, raise the waist, and add a waist band as well as a front fly zipper.  In the end I am glad I took the extra time to tinker with a muslin. This won’t be my last pair of Iris shorts.

  2. Love these! I’m working in some Iris shorts right now and am also making a muslin and moving the pockets to the side seams. I’m planning to do an invisible zipper in the back instead of a fly front. It’s great to see how nicely yours turned out!

    • Thank you. They are indeed a premier print. I love their fabric for pants and shorts. Love your Iris shorts. I think the pockets look nice in the front seam. Perhaps I’ll try adding pockets as the pattern describes next time.
